It looked very much nailed on, but John Eustace will not be the new man in the hot-seat for Swansea City.
The current QPR assistant emerged as the early front-runner almost as soon as Steve Cooper’s departure was confirmed, and seemed ready to be unveiled as the club’s next manager ahead of the new season.
Cooper left the club by mutual consent last week, and the Swans had clearly hoped to have a successor installed swiftly.
It seems Eustace was the man they had in mind.
However, Sunday brought news that the former Kidderminster Harriers boss had turned down the position, meaning Swansea have now had to restart their search, with just under two weeks to go until the new season.
Jody Morris, Cameron Toshack and Russell Martin are just some of the names in the frame, while the club are also believed to have a long-standing interest in Michael Appleton, although he’s currently taking time out of the game after recently being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
