Possibly one of the sweetest dating shows, First Dates, is back on Channel 4 and the series has kicked off with a truly heartwarming story ending with a date couple climbing Mount Kilimanjaro together.
In the show where two strangers go on a dinner date in the First Dates restaurant, a pair has been matched despite their emotional backstories.

Claire, a police detective from Bury was paired with former police officer Matty, from York. Their date was running very smoothly and soon the couple started talking about children.
Matty who is 33, has a son, and is separated from his former partner so sees his son for two days a week. Becoming emotional on camera he said:
“I wasn’t seeing him every morning, I wasn’t seeing him every night when I get home from work…in reality, I am only going to see him two days a week and that is never going to be enough.”
After chatting about Matty’s four-year-old son Claire, who is 36, explained how she had previously been diagnosed with cervical cancer, which one of the side effects of the treatment was early menopause.
This means that Claire is unable to have children, she told Matty: “I always thought I probably would have kids but I never got a choice, it was taken away from me, so that was really difficult.”
Speaking on camera Claire explained the hurt of knowing she can’t have children, she said: “You never think at such a young age you are going to get a cancer diagnosis….it is very hard to think I will never experience pregnancy, I will never get to have that experience of feeling a baby or a child kicking.”
Despite this Claire has remained positive with a clear passion and love of life, she said: “It is hard but I just see the positive, I have been given another chance in life, it is such a privilege…I just feel so lucky every day.”
Matty was left speechless after Claire explained why she didn’t have children and the chat moved on to Claire’s cancer journey, where next year Claire will be five years cancer-free.
At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Matty and Claire have seen each other since the date and will now be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro together to celebrate Claire’s five years of being cancer-free.
First Dates starts Monday, August 6 on Channel 4 at 10 pm.
