Here are your transfer headlines for Monday, August 30.

Wolves still in for a striker

Wolves are still in for a striker despite the arrival of RB Leipzig forward Hwang Hee-chan, according to reports.

The Molineux club were in the market for a front man ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with Cardiff City’s Kieffer Moore mentioned as a potential target.

But on Sunday, Wolves announced the season-long loan signing of the South Korea international from RB Leipzig, which appeared to have put paid to any interest in signing Kieffer Moore.

However, Sun journalist Alan Nixon believes the Midlands outfit are still in for a centre forward before the window shuts.

It could mean that Cardiff are not out of the woods just yet when it comes to Moore, should it transpire that Bruno Lage does want to bolster his forward line further.

Rubin Colwill pens long-term City deal

Cardiff City youngster Rubin Colwill has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2024.

The Wales international burst on to the scene back at the start of 2021, when Bluebirds manager Mick McCarthy was wowed by the forward in training.

The 19-year-old slowly integrated himself into the first-team squad at Cardiff City Stadium, before being named as a shock inclusion in Rob Page’s Euro 2020 squad with Wales.

And the talented youngster has been rewarded for his meteoric rise with a contract which will see him remain at Cardiff for at least another three years.

“It’s been an unbelievable year, but I’m looking forward to the future now,” Colwill said after signing his contract.

“I’m going to keep working hard and I can’t wait to see what is to come for me in a Cardiff City shirt!”

It is just the latest positive news story when it comes to the emergence of youth at Cardiff in recent months.

We have seen academy graduates Colwill, Mark Harris, Joel Bagan, Tom Sang, Ciaron Brown, Sam Bowen, Tavio d’Almeida and Oli Denham all break into the team in the last year or so and it has been incredibly heartening to see.

And Colwill, who spoke in Cardiff’s programme notes ahead of the midweek clash with Brighton last week, believes the hungry youngsters have been given a shot in the arm over the last few months and are desperate to make their mark.

“The academy is coming through strong now and I think we’re all enjoying it,” Colwill said.

“We’ve got a lot of boys in and around the first team and we’re all doing really well to try and prove ourselves to the gaffer and TC (Terry Connor).

“The whole coaching setup are working hard with us to help us move forward and assist the team as much as we can.

“It seems like there are so many of us right now just trying to make that breakthrough. And it is a group of players that have been here for a long time.

“We’ve grown up together and it is great that we’re being trusted. It’s awesome to see everybody doing so well.”

Cardiff told price for Rotherham striker

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has warned off potential suitors by slapping a £10m price tag on reported Cardiff City target Michael Smith.

The Millers striker was reported to be of some interest to the Bluebirds over the weekend, with Cardiff seemingly getting their ducks in a row should Kieffer Moore depart in the final throes of the window.

And Millers boss Warne was pretty strident in his view that it would take a pretty hefty fee to prise away the striker before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

“It would take pretty colossal offer for us to get rid of him,” Warne told the Rotherham Advertiser. “It’s the owner who will decide. If you ask me what Smudge is worth to me, I’d say £10m. He’s irreplaceable for me as a manager.

“A striker who wins headers, hold up the ball, scores goals and works hard is a good asset for any club. But you’ll do very well to take him off us.”

Warne also revealed he held talks with the striker about interest from Championship clubs.

“I have spoken to him about it,” Warne added. “I’ve told him it would take a pretty impressive offer for us to sell.

“If he gets a move fitting for him and it’s good for the club, I’ll be buzzing for him, and he knows that. He enjoys playing football here. I’d be naïve to think other people don’t like him.”

Mark Harris called up by Wales

Not strictly transfer related, but it’s always nice to bring up a good-news story!

While doors close for some, they open for others and the latter has certainly been the case for young Bluebirds striker Mark Harris.

Aaron Ramsey, Joe Rodon, Neco Williams and George Thomas have all withdrawn from Wales’ September fixtures – a friendly against Finland followed by World Cup qualifiers Belarus and Estonia – while Harris, Brandon Cooper, Ben Woodburn and Josh Sheehan have all been called up.

Harris was a regular fixture for Wales’ under-21s side while he was eligible at that age grade and was included in the national team’s pre-Euros training camp at the start of the summer.

However, his bright start for the Bluebirds this summer has earned him his first senior international call-up by Rob Page.

The 22-year-old forward was brought into the Cardiff side towards the tail end of 2020 by Neil Harris and has not looked back since.

City boss Mick McCarthy had mulled over potentially loaning the young striker out this term, wanting him to have more regular game time as he continues his development.

McCarthy eventually decided against that after some encouraging displays and Harris will now have a prominent role in Cardiff’s team this season.

He will hope to earn his first senior Wales camp over the coming days, too, to cap off a remarkable few months for the striker.

Wales play Finland on September 1, Belarus on September 5 and Estonia in Cardiff on September 8.

Meanwhile, striker Isaak Davies and midfielder Keenan Patten have been added to Paul Bodin’s Wales under-21s squad, while Caleb Hughes has been added to the under-19s and Morgan Wigley to the under-18s.
